We have a wide range of people working for us from a diverse range of backgrounds all with one common goal; ensuring our freight gets out on time!
Whether you are one of our couriers, sorting freight in one of our depots, on the warehouse floor or working in our corporate office, our culture is very much about rolling your sleeves up and getting on with things. As an example of this, at Christmas time when it gets really busy, you’ll find everyone lending a hand, sorting parcels to make sure those last minute Christmas presents get delivered before the big day.
We realise that a great company culture and an enjoyable workplace are critical to business performance. We’re proud of the fact that when we talk about our people, we can honestly say they’re passionate about what they do and love their work.
Each year in order to understand and track how our employees are feeling about working for us we conduct an engagement survey using John Robertson and Associates (JRA). The survey is New Zealand’s largest annual workplace climate employee engagement survey and measures New Zealand’s “Best Places to Work”. Our 2013 results reflect this commitment with our percentage of engaged employees on a par with the JRA Best Places to Work benchmark.
Promoting engagement is more than just having staff complete a survey however. The results are made available to all employees as we believe transparency and openness are key to driving engagement in the workplace and action plans are implemented to ensure we continue to improve.
It’s not just a job!
Our business is diverse with people performing a wide range of roles in different geographical locations and working environments. As a 24/6 deadline driven organisation some of these environments can be particularly challenging. Despite this the thing that everyone has in common is our passion for what we do and our strong sense of teamwork and customer service focus.
We have a wide range of initiatives at both the local and national level which aim to ensure our environment is a great place to work. We run regular events through our staff run social clubs. One of these recently implemented was an initiative called “Walk a Mile”. This involves managers and staff in our CourierPost Northern region choosing a different part of the business to work in for a day. Helping them to better understand some of the challenges their staff and co-workers encounter daily.
The aim of these ongoing initiatives is to ensure our employees have fun and we foster a sense of belonging so coming to work is not ‘just a job’.
Environment and Community
As a freight business we are mindful of our carbon footprint and place real emphasis on our sustainability initiatives. Corporate Social Responsibility is of central importance to our business, our employees, our customers and the wider community.
