Richard - National Road Operations Manager

Tell us about your career so far with ECL.
It all begun when I was studying at the University of Waikato and needed some extra money, off I went to Student Job Search and there was a job working part-time on a Sunday night.  That quickly turned into more and more nights, a few mergers and finally a fulltime job.  In the end I worked nights at Hamilton CourierPost for 7 years and through that time worked my way up to the Team Leader role.  During my time there I also trained to provide cover for the Network Management Centre (NMC) staff.

In mid 2007 I  was appointed to a role with the ECL Transport team in Auckland as the NMC Day Coordinator.  This was a wonderful change of pace and the first time I had seen sunlight at work for a long time! 18 Months later I took an opportunity as Auckland Road Operations Manager role, another challenging role which I enjoyed immensely

Fast forward another 2 years and I am now the National Road Operations Manager, a move from the Transport office at Contract Logistics Highbrook to CourierPost House in Central Auckland.

Describe a typical day for you at work.
As I work in the Transport team the day starts fairly early, checking on the previous night’s operational reports and working with my team to analyse where things may be improved.
Apart from the day to day operational things that I am sure everyone needs to complete some of my specific functions include network planning assistance, cost allocation model management, customer liaison, GPS system management and container management.
