Sonny - Senior Warehouse Team Leader
Tell us about your career so far with ECL
I started 4 years ago on a casual contract doing manual work; wrapping and stacking pallets, it was hard physical graft. Over the next couple of years I moved into other areas of the warehouse and gradually built up my skills. In November last year my hard work and potential were recognised and I moved into my current position of Senior Team Leader. I supervise 3 teams in the third party warehousing area covering a number of clients.
Describe a typical day for you at work.
It’s hard to describe a typical day as there is so much variety in my role. It usually starts with checking work and making sure everything has gone smoothly the previous day, then depending on what’s happening I could be investigating undelivered stock for customers or putting on my planning hat and looking at warehouse layouts and efficiencies. A lot of my role involves thinking outside the square around how things could be done better.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
The variety, there are many different types of tasks to do from physically getting product out of the door through to complex data analysis. There is also the people management side of things which is new to me. Every day is different, offering new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow. I’m lucky that I have a manager who respects me and whose values align to my own. We have a strong positive workplace culture and an environment of open communication and trust which helps us work better as a team. We all have one goal and are passionate about doing a good job and achieving this. People who work here take pride in their work and our leaders value our contribution.
What do you most enjoy about working for our company?
The positive culture is the key thing; everyone is motivated and wants to be here which makes it a great place to work. I also like the working environment at Contract Logistics as it’s open plan, everyone knows everyone and they like to have a few laughs. There is quite a bit of social interaction and people meet up on the weekend. Every day we play cards at lunch, it can get a bit competitive sometimes!
How do you see your career developing with ECL?
ECL is a great place to develop my career as there are so many different roles. ECL has a forward thinking approach; we are innovators and are leading the way in our industry which is great to be involved in from a career development perspective. I see this as an early career development stage for me; lots of opportunities have opened up in a short space of time. The sky’s the limit!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I guess in my spare time I am a pretty quiet guy though people at work might not think so! I enjoy listening to music and going to gigs and concerts. After a bit of encouragement I own the Karaoke Mic and “Cut Shapes” on the dance-floor! I also like to play the guitar and socialise with mates.
