Sustainability is of central importance to our business, our customers, our partners and the wider community.

Express Couriers is committing to our five year sustainability plan. Our focus is on accurately measuring and assessing our environmental impacts so we can develop strategies and actions that will help us reduce our impacts in the future. Our people are the backbone of that plan as together we can make a difference in so many ways. Each small step we take to get smart about what we are doing now, adds up to big benefits in the future.

One big focus for our business is more effectively managing electricity on our sites. We steadily raising our understanding of electricity management and becoming more efficient. This does require investment in new technologies to achieve energy savings. There are many energy saving initiatives taking place in our business at any one time. One very worthwhile investment has been changing out the old high bay lighting on our depots to more efficient lighting. Through this one technological upgrade, we will save around 500,000kwh this year.

Another focus for our business reducing the amount of waste that we send to landfill.  Having attained a clear picture of our waste profile, across our sites, we recognise what our people need to do on each site to more dramatically reduce the amount of waste that we send to landfill. Everyone across the business has been asked to step up to reduce, reuse, recycle and pre-cycle. Along with the help of our suppliers, we are steadily improving this important aspect of our operations.

Continual education of our people across the efficient use of resources is a priority. Likewise, everyone's good ideas about consumption management are worthwhile. Our people recognise that in terms of operating responsibly, everyone must step up, continue learning, and endeavour to make a difference.
