Our BusinessWe are constantly striving for business efficiencies, not only for our own benefit, but also for the benefit of our customers. Supply Chain Management is at the core of what we do.
Our first and most obvious project is progressing our carbon footprint measurement and emission scope planning.
Ultimately all our individual sites will assume accountability for their individual emissions, particularly around energy and fuel.
Also at a site level, a broad waste reduction programme is being explored to promote the ongoing need for efficiencies in all areas for Express Couriers Limited.
To help us form some of these programmes we have undertaken two separate audits.
We participate, as part of NZ Post Group, in a Corporate Responsibility Index audit that benchmarks not only our sustainability initiatives but also our commitment to workplace, community, safety and wellbeing and marketplace. As a result of this audit, Express Couriers will focus on the environment, which is in line with the rest of the NZ Post Group. This audit was essential for us to formulate our key priorities for the coming year.
We are also a member of the Sustainable Business Network (SBN), and have undertaken the assessment known as the ‘Get Sustainable Challenge’. This assessed Express Couriers’ aspirations and attitudes towards sustainability and assisted with confirming our own independent actions with regards to our sustainable position.
Our parent companies are also actively engaged, learn more about DHL New Zealand sustainability and New Zealand Post corporate responsibility
Partnerships Adding Value
We develop strong long-term partnerships based on best practice operations and procurement methods which reflect our commitment to lawful, ethical, safe and sustainable business practices and to demonstrate they share our overall philosophy and approach.
Working together with our business partners we can effectively measure, manage and reduce our environmental impacts. An example is CourierPost joint innovation with our suppliers to achieve a 24% reduction in the level of micron (plastic thickness) that is used to produce our fully recyclable plastic range of Trackpaks.
As part of the New Zealand Post Group we utilise a supplier corporate responsibility practice grading method set out by the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development.
Suppliers must share our commitment to best practice and continuous improvement in relation to social, economic and environmental aspects that impact our business such as:
- Management practices that respect the rights of all employees;
- Mitigating any adverse impact on the environment;
- Identifying and proactively managing risk; and
- Providing a safe and healthy work place and promoting the health and well-being of all employees
